The goal of this talk will be to discuss some correspondences between these two methods in large classes of examples, where the boundary 3-manifold is Seifert fibered over the 2-sphere. It deals with assigning objects (numbers, groups, vector spaces etc.) to topological spaces in order to make them distinguishable. We start by introducing some key ingredients of Spin Geometry and give two applications to illustrate the role of spinors in the study of the geometry of submanifolds and in Witten's proof of the positive mass theorem.
