I am not from Lowestoft, having spent most of my life until 3 years back in the big smoke. I will probably never be considered a "Lowestoftian," and will never lose, let alone seek to erase, my London experiences - they're hard-wired into the psychic circuitry. The high mobility characterizing Cheek's experience is not itself unusual, but it is hard to see the relevance to it of such terms as "unified" or "centred" - neither is it precisely "nomadic." Tóibín regularly returns to the seaside and the village of Wexford, the place of Eamon’s childhood, where the erosion of the Wexford coast serves as a metaphor for change in Eamon’s life. The vividness and intensity with which Tóibín writes about the land and the sea very nearly makes the setting itself a character in the story. Set in a gritty North London neighborhood, White Teeth (2000) by English novelist and essayist Zadie Smith is a story about multiculturalism and the struggle for immigrants and natives alike to make sense of their cultural identity The Hippopotamus.

The plays of these dramatists transgress taboos of all kinds and refuse the audience the position of the detached spectator, aiming willfully—and judging from various reviews, successfully—to offend. Clearly a response to a certain tendency toward nostalgia and revivals in the British theater, as well to the heavy emphasis on morality on one side of British politics in the 1980’s and the knee-jerk political correctness on the other, “in-yer-face” theater must be seen in this contextual light Sheer Chance. In this article, three works from the millennial moment in the United Kingdom and Ireland – Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis, Joe Penhall's Blue/Orange, and Conor McPherson's Shining City – reveal a shifting conception of how psychotherapy works as a theatrical and a metatheatrical device Yangtze.
