Moltmann finds a helpful corrective in the 1986 encyclical Dominum et Vivifacantem which lauds the Paschal Mystery as the key point of departure. As a result, the Pentecostal Movement is divided between trinitarian and non-trinitarian branches. It was apparent to him then that the gifts occurred where people had expectant faith. I might wait for a person at the airport for several hours. Uttered by a member of the movements’ international leadership, it is horrifically scandalous, to say the least: "Whatever distracts from the primary focus--the openness to the Holy Spirit--I do not want to see in the charismatic renewal," says a cautious Charles Whitehead, British chairman of the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal (ICCR). .. "But I am concerned (!)when charismatic prayer groups include devotion to Mary and start praying the rosary," he told Charisma. "I do not see this as openness to the Holy Spirit, but rather as a return to traditional piety." (CHARISMA MAGAZINE) Some within the Renewal are quite open about their contempt for "ordinary" Catholics, and the Catholic doctrine on justification, borrowing their theological concepts and language from anti-Catholic fundamentalists: My experience after ten years of full time evangelization ministry in local church situations is that the overwhelming majority of Catholics don’t even know the content of that [the salvation] message … Practicing Catholic religion is still the ticket to heaven in most of our minds—a works based salvation. (Father Dimitri Sala, Chariscenter USA, vol. 23 April/May/June 1998 my italics) Faced with such blatant and heretical rhetoric, it should be obvious that something is seriously amiss with much of the leadership of the Renewal.

But I am also highly suspicious at this point of the over preoccupation with spiritual warfare that has become common in many Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. I find a lot of the “demon-busters” rhetoric to be overblown and in some cases destructive. On a pastoral level, I’ve had to deal with individuals within our community who have kind of jumped the shark with all of that KUNDALINI WARNING - Are False Spirits Invading the Church? - [UPDATED 2015 EDITION]. For example, in regard to continualism, I recently wrote on the growth of evangelicalism in Brazil, which is decidedly Pentecostal, but I also mentioned the danger of Neo-Pentecostalism, which is virtually a shamanist expression of prosperity and charlatanism. (The Pentecostals leaders in Brazil are concerned and speak out about Neo-Pentecostalism and its dangers, and I will write more on this again.) Also, the Catholic is not easily impressed with the reported miracles among Charismatics. None spoken of at this conference were documented. Pentecostals are not the only group claiming miracles and conversions to authenticate their movement. There are numerous unapproved Marian apparitions (some that report the Blessed Mother warning "the Charismatics are from Hell") that also claim miracles and conversions. [8] There are wild visionaries like Clemente in Spain who has crowned himself "Pope Gregory XVI" who's movement likewise claims healings and conversions Pentecostés: Esta historia es nuestra historia. I would contend that any so-called "Reformed" charismatic theology is a contradiction in terms and an oxymoron. A thoroughly monergistic view of the supernatural operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit would say that the Spirit comes and goes as He pleases (see John 3:8; Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:11; Philippians 2:13) and not at the discretion of mouthy human beings who think God is at their disposal to perform miracles at their command Everyday Evangelism: Making a Difference for Christ Where You Live. This occurred in February, 1967, about a year after four Duquesne University professors in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania started praying together to stir up fervor within their Catholic faith. A small group of individuals met with these faculty members for a weekend. Now you might think that the relatively sane and sober Charismatics, the guys with some biblical scruples, the people who wish to preserve the baby while throwing out the dirty bathwater, you might think that they would be the first and loudest voices to condemn these foolish blasphemous practices in their own Movement, because I can guarantee you, I haven’t watched the obviously the twitter feed from people responding to what I’m actually saying right now, but I guarantee you, it’s filled with notes from people who are trying to point out that what he’s talking about are extremes, this is not true of the mainstream The Gospel Kingdom: Tabernacle Sermons III. Where I differ from most Pentecostals is that I think it happens relatively rarely, that sickness is a natural phenomenon that happens to Christians and non-Christians, and that I think public claims of miracle healings should be backed up by proof. In certain respects, however, the Catholic church remains culpable. First, the Catholic church has been negligent by failing to train these people to reject all forms of paganism and to embrace solely the Triune God of Christianity.21 Second, the unhealthy and unbiblical aspects of the Catholic understanding of the communion of saints (i.e., the belief in the unity and cooperation among believers in both this world and the next) has contributed to the problem Professional Women in South African Pentecostal Charismatic Churches.
